I was a general practitioner in The Medical Centre, Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire UK for 35 years. I was involved in primary care team development, and worked with the local community to build a Day Centre in the Community Hospital, and to set up a community transport scheme, Shipston Link.
I also held academic posts in the University of Oxford, and was a Member of the Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners. My wife Gill and I moved to Emsworth in 2012. I am also Chairman of the Emsworth Residents Association. I became a trustee of the Friends in 2016, and organised the Emsworth Friends Health Fair in 2017. |

I have lived in Emsworth for over 40 years, working locally in Portsmouth in the defence industry, after service in the Royal Navy. My first involvement with the Friends was as a volunteer, supporting a past and sadly missed Chairman, Denis Howard, a close neighbour. As a result, I became a member of the Friends some 25 years ago, and after a period of time, was invited to become a trustee.
I enjoyed the involvement and the ability to support the cottage hospital. When the treasurer's position became vacant, I was very happy to fill that role. After the hospital closed, it enabled the Friends to broaden our objectives in the wider support of health and wellbeing in and around the Emsworth vicinity, which I think has been hugely beneficial and very satisfying. |
Stuart HeartfieldI moved to Portsmouth 35 years ago to take up a role in IBM and my position then gave me opportunities to travel and work overseas.
Soon after my return to the UK in 2006 my wife and I moved to Emsworth, and are delighted to continue living here in retirement. Having been brought up in a family that worked in the health service and also seeing at first hand how close relatives have benefitted from community support during ill health I am conscious of the power of neighbourly assistance. It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to join the Friends of Emsworth Community Health and work with the Trustees and Members to help maintain Emsworth as the friendly and supportive community that I have come to enjoy. |
Duncan cameronI have spent most of my working life in the healthcare industry, initially working as a drug rep in the Emsworth area and then heading up a sales team for NHS blood plasma company, BPL. Currently I own and run a growing care agency called Right at Home, based in Havant, which has just recently been awarded an overall rating of Outstanding from the Care Quality Commission.
Whilst growing up the emphasis on care and support in the community was ever present. I learned from watching my parents, a village GP and a practice nurse, how you can make a big difference in people's lives through offering your time and assistance. In my mid thirties I attended night school to train as a Garden Designer and landscaper where I achieved a Diploma. To this day I am a very keen, hands on gardener, but more a hobbyist than an expert. Through this blend of care and gardening it seemed obvious to be involved with the fantastic work of FECH and, when I was approached by to become a trustee, I jumped at the opportunity. |
Simon wadeI have worked in Emsworth for the past 15-years at MindWorks Marketing, and its from here I first became connected to The Friends, previously helping to support the Community Health & Wellbeing Fair. It's a great honour to now join the Charity as a Trustees where I can make a greater and longer-term impact supporting health care services in the local community.
I have a personal interest in health which is driven by close family connections to autism, Downs Syndrome and Type-1 Diabetes – giving me firsthand insights into the importance of comprehensive health support. |
